The High Value of Orphans

Orphans are often cast aside and deemed as having little to no value in society. However, in the kingdom of God, the ones who can contribute the least are valued the most. This is part of the beautiful grace of God.

God’s Work with Orphans

Jesus chose low-class fishermen and hated tax collectors, sinners, and misfits to be the core leaders of his new initiative. None of us would pick these people to move forward any agenda, yet Jesus chose them to lead his great and beautiful mission on earth.

This is why He cares so much about orphans and the broken. They are viewed as the bottom rung of society and are voted the least likely to succeed. They are cast aside, and their ‘value’ in the world’s eyes is zero.

But in the Kingdom of God, orphans are incredibly valuable to Him. They matter, they are loved, and God pursues them like they are the most precious, valuable commodity on earth.

God uses the weak things of the world to confound the wise. He takes the ones who don’t have value in advancing the world’s Kingdom and makes them the most valuable in advancing His Kingdom. As we spend ourselves on behalf of the weakest, poorest, and most broken; as we love, empower, and adopt orphans, we are directly entering into God’s favorite work. We are reaching the people the world has forgotten about, the ones the world thinks are nothing, and showing them how much God loves and values them.

Empowering Orphans

We fight for orphans because we believe in their potential. Every life has immense value. You have no idea the potential that lays inside every single orphan. But it may just take you to help bring it out.

Orphan care is like mining. It’s dirty, messy, and exhausting. But we keep digging, we keep mining, we keep pressing because we’re after their gold. The Bible is full of verses about how much God cares for and protects orphans, and commands us to care for and protect them. Deuteronomy 10:18 says, “He executes justice for the orphan and the widow, and shows His love for the alien by giving him food and clothing.”

As we love and care for orphans, we are directly entering into God’s mission on earth. We are lifting them from where they are and watching as some of them end up as front runners in building God’s kingdom on earth. The ones most cast aside can become the most prominent builders of God’s house on earth.
